How To Choose Agents As An Actor

Choosing the right agent is the most important thing an actor can do to build their career. Chances of landing the roles you want increase significantly if you have an agent. Begin by deciding what type of acting you want to do, because you will find most agents specialize in television, film, theater, or commercials. Many actors have more than one agent depending on their acting desires. Take time to research thoroughly any agents you are considering. One from a large agency may get you bigger auditions, but an agent with a smaller client base can give you more individualized attention. Be realistic about yourself, your talent, experience and what stage you are presently in your career. Select an agent who has a common vision on the roles you seek and your career path. You also need to be alert for common agent scams. Avoid any agent who asks for money upfront to represent you; a reputable agent makes 10 of your pay when they get you a job. Walk away if an agent insists you take expensive classes or headshots only from their choice of companies. Take some time, and you will find the best agent for your career.
