Tips For Training To Become An Actor

The dream for many is to one day become a famous actor or actress. Few realize this dream. Luck plays a major part in getting discovered as an actor, but so does skill. Those bitten by the acting bug work especially hard to get noticed in the industry. Aspiring actors are interested in honing the craft and becoming great. How does an upcoming thespian train to become an actor? Well here two tips for training to be a skilled and capable actor.

Try Improv

One great tip is to participate in improv. Improv, or improvisation, is when you make up situations and characters as you go. The end result is an entire scene based on minimal information. Classes on improvisation are one way to let loose and increase your acting range. Usually in an improv class a scenario or situation is given then the actors on stage must create a skit based on that scene. This is done without a script. Joining an improv troop ensures constant practice in coming up with characters and ideas on the fly. Improvisation is very freeing and allows for much creativity.

Step Outside of Yourself

Trying out for character roles that are completely opposite of who you are is an excellent way to stretch your range. Are you a perky morning person always in a good mood? Then try playing the role of someone who is morose, brooding, and pessimistic. Step outside of yourself and the usual roles you play to show your versatility. Create whole new personas complete with back stories. Challenge yourself to reach deep inside for dormant emotions. Casting directors love an actor with a wide range. This increases your chances of getting call-backs for a variety of roles.

Show Up

The one important tip to becoming an actor that has nothing to do with acting training is”show up to auditions! Also be sure to show up on time. Casting calls and auditions are the way actors receive roles. It is a chance for you to show these skills you’ve developed. Showing up on time and doing well can help you nail the part.
